Is Kamala Harris a dangerous choice?

Since Joe Biden was removed as a contender in the November election, his replacement as the democratic nominee Kamala Harris has been riding high on a wave of favorable polls. Voters are still waiting for a comprehensive political platform and more content, but it is worth considering what your opinions would be based on her background as a California senator and prosecutor and her VP role. Will it be similar to Joe Biden’s policies with high government spending, more regulations, higher taxes and global conflicts and wars?

Harris will certainly champion progressive economic policies, including paid family leave, affordable housing and free tuition for low-and-middle income families and will most likely continue to spend despite debts and continue to build out the government. As vice president, she has been Biden’s partner in passing major economic legislation, which included major investments in infrastructure and green energy, causing inflation and budget deficits. With inflation and high interest rates continuing to bedevil American wallets, polls have shown that the economy continues to be top of mind for many voters.

When it come to the subject of immigration, Harris would most likely continue with an open boarder policy bringing in millions of illegal immigrants, hoping that they eventually will be democratic party voters.

Another important issue that the democrats are driving hard in the election campaign is abortion. Harris has long supported women’s right to an abortion. She played a key role in the Biden campaign’s effort to make abortion rights central to the 2024 election, and she has long advocated for legislation that would enshrine reproductive rights nationwide. Powerful pro-choice advocacy groups, such as Emily’s List and Reproductive Freedom for All, have officially endorsed Harris since she started her presidential run.

In terms of foreign affairs, Harris has limited experience and will likely follow Joe Biden’s path. Harris has vowed to support Ukraine in its conflict war against Russia for as long as it takes and has not indicated any ideas for a peace agreement and ending the conflict. In the war between Israel and Hamas, Harris has been a longtime advocate for a two-state solution, and she has called for an end to the war in Gaza. As president, she said during her DNC acceptance speech that she would ensure “that Israel is secure, the hostages are released, the suffering in Gaza ends, and the Palestinian people can realize their right to dignity, security, freedom, and self-determination”. While serving as vice-president, she has been more open to criticizing Israel during the Israel-Gaza war than Biden, who openly has supported Israel’s genocide in the Gaza strip.

Taxes has become one of the key election issues and let’s look at Harris tax history. In 2017, while a senator, Harris supported a number of progressive tax programs, co-sponsoring a bill with socialist Bernie Sanders to expand social security for the elderly by increasing the tax rate on investments. As a presidential candidate in 2019, she supported a corporate tax rate of 35%, up from 21%. This was more aggressive than Biden’s proposal, which she also supported, of an increase to 28%. She has also talked about the need for higher taxation on wealth people.

Harris has long advocated for tough laws to protect the environment. As a prosecutor, she defended California’s climate laws and sued oil companies for environmental damage. As vice-president, she helped pass the Inflation Reduction Act, which has funneled hundreds of billions of dollars to renewable energy and electric vehicle tax credit and rebate programs.

So the candidates are vastly different in November. Is Harris a dangerous choice? It depends on what the voters want, but she is clearly a far-left candidate who will continue growing the government, incur more debt, increase the tax burden, focus on global cooperation and the climate and most likely keep the conflict in Ukraine going. It is hard to see Harris as a strong president given her lack of experience and her lack of achievements during her time as the vice president. But if you don’t like Trump and his policies, then Harris is the choice.
