The corrupt mayor of New York City
Politically, New York City has been in decline since Bloomberg was the mayor and continued the clean-up work that had started when Rudy Giuliani was mayor 1994-2001. Bloomberg left office in 2013 and was followed by the far-left democrat Bill de Blasio, who turned the city into financial despair, mass exodus of families and the middle class and allowed the city to become a high-crime city again. As a result, the increasingly democratic voter base, voted for former cop Eric Adams as the new mayor in the city’s 2021 mayoral election. He had previously been Brooklyn Borough president, the first African-American to hold that position.
It seems that Adams has struggled in his position as mayor since the beginning. He is supposedly tough on crime, but that is irrelevant as long as the district attorneys in the city don’t apply the law and charge people. Instead, crime has increased, the budget deficit widened, and the city has been invaded by illegal immigrants, also adding financial problems and crimes. Adams has criticized Biden’s open border immigration policy. As a result, a series of investigations into Adam’s administration emerged. On September 25th Adams was indicted on federal charges of bribery, fraud, and soliciting foreign campaign donations.
Bottom line is that his mayoral campaign and administration have been dogged by federal investigations and press reporting of irregularities from the start. The mayor and his closest advisors have been more focused on finding cushy jobs for friends and family and using the system, then to try to run the city effectively. The mayor arranged a job for his brother as head of security and for his girlfriend at the department of education. She never showed up at work, but still collected the $221,000 annual salary. Are we living in Greece or Italy or any other corrupt banana republic? Are there no checks and controls for what politicians can do? If you were hired by a regular corporation and never showed up at work, you would be fired quickly.
Eric Adam’s nepotism and disregard for common sense and laws, shows that not only is he a horrible mayor, but he also has a arrogant criminal mind. There is no doubt that he will have to resign before his time as mayor is over.
Nobody is shocked by this development though. Adams has selected a number of shady figures in his administration from the beginning. The names have come and gone such as Banks, Pearson, Caban and the list can go on. Senior members of his team, all corrupt. Maybe this is a result of New York losing working class voters and republican voters? What is left in the city are the wealthy and the poor, and the poor will win the elections as the majority is poor. They are used to scrambling to survive, cutting corners, potentially commit crimes to get ahead. If they make it, there is an arrogance factor as they think they are powerful and can do what they want.
The day after Adams was indicted, he held a press-conference and was surrounded by his team and friends and for some reason they were all African-American. Is Adams trying to make his corruption charges about race? Or is New York City becoming the new Detroit or Chicago? Compared to many other politicians, Adams crimes seem petty and minor such as free upgrades at flights, nice hotels, nepotism and free jobs, cool paid for vacations and similar things. A poor man’s crimes. But Adams and his often-dysfunctional deputies are committing low-level sins and crimes, and they are forgetting the rule of broken-windows policing. Small crimes and small criminals are already committing bigger crimes or planning them. Adams needs to resign not because he is a useless and horrible mayor, but simply because he is a criminal.
